Friends of Prospect Lake
earth & song
Inspiration can be drawn from many sources--person, place or thing. Our focus for the Friends of Prospect Lake's fifth online exhibit are those local artists who are inspired by the tangible and ephemeral alike. Those essential elements that keep us grounded and those that transport us.
Please welcome two local artists ceramicist Robin Goldberg whose powerful tactile vessels are both elegant and gritty and singer/songwriter Willy Welch whose earthy songs conjure memories and dreams that whisper through the trees.
Robin Goldberg:elements
"Calming. Meditative. Transformative. These are just some of the reasons my favorite medium has been working with clay for the past 30 years. The pieces in this show are from my private collections. Whether working on the wheel or hand building, creating textures, collecting driftwood and stones from many beaches, rivers and hiking trails, has brought me much joy over the years. The inspiration for combining all of these elements into silent, yet dynamic towers continues to be very healing for me."

Willy Welch:singer/songwiter
"My songwriting is frequently inspired by nature, undoubtedly because I spent much of my childhood in the woods of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Massachusetts - bird-watching, mushroom hunting, fishing, camping, trapping, and turtle catching. Although a "city adult" for work's sake my spiritual home has always been around lakes and forests, to which I escaped as often as possible. The Berkshires were a frequent retreat when I was growing up, and the breathtaking vistas, seasonal variety, and flora and fauna have lived in my heart ever since. My (native Texan) wife Wendy and I made South Egremont our "forever home" last summer, and are exceptionally glad we did."
Willy Welch is a singer/songwriter/actor. He is probably best known for the Peter Paul & Mary hit "Right Field," and being a staff songwriter for the PBS TV show "Barney & Friends." Willy has spent the last four decades touring and entertaining at coffeehouses, camps, schools, libraries, etc. He is a member of Actors Equity and has made frequent forays into the theatre, from regional shows to summer stock to Off-Broadway. He has appeared in plays such as "Once," "Texas in Paris," "Cotton Patch Gospel" "Uncle Vanya" and "Man of La Mancha."
